The democrats have two reasons to hold onto gerrymandering.
The first is that it serves their leadership and fundraising efforts well in states where the party has redistricting power. It also helps their incumbents in states where they have been gerrymandered, because those representatives are in districts where so many democrats have been packed, that the democratic incumbent safe, so long as they vote with the members of their party.
The second reason is that the democrats are waiting for a demographic wave, where the constituents that always safely vote for democrats overwhelm the GOP’s ability to gerrymander. Then the democrats will be the gerrymandering party and the fundraising spoils of our political system will accrue to them.
When that happens, the country will be susceptible to the authoritarian candidates from the left. Limiting of our rights, a pilfering of our country for the good of the political elite, …………XXXXXthose will occur under democratic leadership, just as they have under the republicans. And who will stop them? They will be gerrymandered into a permanent majority. We will, in essence, have a one party system.
